Exercising the sciatica might be the key to better back health

By: Bhumika Bhatia

There are many different pain-inducing conditions that people suffer from, but one of the most frustrating is back pain from sciatica. For many people who have this condition, it will have few or no symptoms – however, some people will feel mild to severe back and leg pain and sometimes numbness or tingling. The pain may go away and come back, or could persist for a long time, but many treatments do not address the root of the problem.

Most of the time patients receive treatments like cortisone injections, pain medication, heat treatments, and ultrasounds are used to provide patients with temporary pain relief from inflammation, pain, and limited mobility. However, they do not focus on the issue that caused the pressure on the sciatic nerve to begin with. There are many different conditions that can place pressure on the sciatic nerve, which is what your treatment should be focusing on. Piriformis syndrome, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis are all common causes of pressure on the sciatic nerve. All of these are aggravated by muscle imbalances.

There are several different sciatica exercises that you can do to get quick leg pain relief. Stretching is one of the most effective parts of muscle balance therapy because it relieves tension from the muscles so they are able to relax. When your muscles are relaxed, your entire body relaxes and alleviates the pain from the pinched nerve. You should feel a slight relief in leg pain as soon as you try the stretch. The best plan is to consult with a physical therapist to formulate a plan that includes stretching and exercise in order to relieve the pain. Keep in mind that just because you have pain in your leg does not mean the problem is not originating in your shoulders, neck, or back – sometimes simply stretching the joints that are in pain will not provide the relief you’re looking for.

There are many different recommendations to keep in mind for sciatica pain relief, but it is important to see a doctor and work through your specific symptoms to determine the best method of treatment for the cause, not just the symptoms. Don’t put it off until the pain gets worse – take care of it now and get your life back.

Finding the right help for social security disability

By: Tony Alter

Social Security disability is a very complicated benefit, but it can make a huge difference for someone whose health is keeping him or her from working and making the money they need to provide for themselves or their family. With the assistance people get from Social Security programs, they are able to pay their monthly bills and even get assistance with prescription costs and other medical issues.

Social Security benefits are paid in two ways – a disability insurance program and an income program. Social Security disability benefits are paid to people who cannot work because they have a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. Federal law requires that this definition be quite strict to assure that the deserving people are receiving the benefits. Some programs give money to people with partial or short-term disability, but Social Security does not. Certain family members of disabled workers can also receive money from Social Security if they meet the correct qualifications. To meet the earnings requirement for the benefits, you must meet two different tests: a recent work test based on your age at the time you became disabled and a duration of work test to show you worked long enough under Social Security.

To apply for these benefits, you can do so online at www.socialsecurity-disabilityapplication.com or call their toll-free number to make an appointment at your local Social Security office. If you’re concerned about working through the application on your own or have a disability that prevents you from doing so, there are many companies out there that employ experts who can help you throughout the entire process. Most of them only require payment once you get your money so there is no risk in asking these companies to provide you with assistance if you need it. You should apply for benefits as soon as you become disabled because it can take a long time to process the application and get approved.

Your application will be reviewed to make sure you meet the basic requirements for disability benefits. They will check and make sure you worked enough years to qualify and evaluate any current work activities. Once you meet those, your application will be sent to the Disability Determination Services office in your state. This agency will complete the decision by getting the information they need from doctors and disability specialists in your state. All facts will be considered.
